donut queens forever
Recently, I discovered a fantastic little site called Retronaut. Are you stuck somewhere with hours upon hours of free time? Retronaut is the site for you. If not, don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Here are some of my favorite things I’ve found/learned so far…enjoy!

I need more monogrammed garments in my life. MM forever.
Marilyn Monroe Hiking, August 1950

Erotic albums were apparently all the rage. Favorite titles include: “Skin Diver Suite”, “Strip Along with Us”, “Stag Party Special”, “Music for Hangovers” (Whaaa?), “Bert Henry the Hard Way” and “How to Strip for your Husband”.
Sexual Album Covers, 1950s-60s
This is what the Playboy Bunny costumes should have looked like.
Colour Photographs of Circus Performers, 1940s-50s
DONUT QUEENS EXSISTED. Where can I apply?
I want to hang out with these girls. Why didn’t I think of beach wigs?
Beach Fashions, Havana, Cuba, 1958
Screw black cat auditions, check out this lady’s out of control brows. So mischievous!
Black Cat Audtions in Hollywood, 1961

If the ballet looked like this all the time, I would be at every performance.
‘Metamorphosis’, New York Ballet, 1953

Again, where can I apply?

I was already obsessed with ’50s kitchens. My infatuation level just went through the roof. Pink and Turquoise are so undervalued today.
And last but definitely not least…

Fish jello was a thing. I was just talking to my friends Stephanie and Megan about our mutual love of jello-molded foods and the most disgusting gelatin recipes we’d ever seen.
For me, this one takes the cake.

kisses,

OMG, I’m addicted to Retronaut. I think they posted a piece on a cookbook for banana’s from the 1970′s a few weeks back. There were some vile ideas held within. Your fish jello reminded me of it. I hadn’t been obsessed with 50′s kitchens but now that you pointed out the pink and turquoise, I am really interested in it all. I also recently saw on the Retronaut’s website a compilation of Cosmopolitan covers from 1896 to 1976 I believe. It’s fascinating to watch the evolution of the covers through the years.
